Types of Sports Betting

Sports betting is a way of putting your money behind an outcome of a sporting event. While there’s never an exact prediction, it can be an exciting and rewarding experience. The most popular sports include football, baseball, basketball, and hockey. But there are many other types of wagers, from reality shows to auto racing.

Moneyline bets are the most common type of bet. In a moneyline bet, you choose which team will win a game. Unlike a total bet, you don’t get paid out on how many points the team wins.

Parlays are similar to moneyline bets. Parlays involve multiple bets, and the payout for a parlay will vary depending on the prices of the bets included. If all of the bets in the parlay win, the bettor will be awarded the amount of their wager.

Point spreads are also one of the most common types of bet. They’re bets in which the underdog has to lose by a certain amount in order for the bettor to win. For instance, in a match between the New Orleans Saints and the Los Angeles Rams, the Saints would have to win by at least three points in order to win a spread bet.

Prop bets, on the other hand, are wagers on specific outcomes. Examples of prop bets include predicting the number of goals in a soccer match, or whether a certain baseball player will hit a home run.

A futures bet is one that is made months in advance of an event. The odds are determined by the bookmaker and change as they track the return rate of the bookmaker. Usually, the more money the bettor puts up, the smaller the odds will be.
