Types of Sports Betting

When it comes to sports betting, there are a variety of betting types available. The most popular types of sports betting include straight bets, futures bets, and in-play betting. In addition to the usual point spread and total bets, there are also several types of proposition and teaser bets.

Point spread bets are those made on the favorites. Favorites have a negative spread while underdogs have a positive one. The pick games, on the other hand, are considered to be even, meaning that both teams have a good chance of winning. Moneyline bets are the simplest type of sports wager and reflect the implied probability of a particular outcome.

Point spread bets involve deciding whether a team is stronger than the other. In this type of bet, a favorite team needs to win by a certain amount of points in order to cover the spread. An underdog, on the other hand, can win the bet despite losing by a large margin.

The NBA, MLB, and PGA Tour have lobbied in the past to legalize sports betting. During the lame duck session of the 2018 session, former Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch introduced a bill called the Sports Wagering Market Integrity Act. This bill would have created a clearinghouse for states’ sports betting markets and established federal standards. However, it was a largely symbolic bill.
