Sports Betting 101
Sportsbooks have many different ways to bet on a game, but the most common type of bet is the money line. You can place a bet on a specific game total or the point spread, or even bet on just a certain quarter or period of a game. While this might seem complicated, it is actually a simple way to get started. You can also find bets on a specific player, such as Julian Edelman over/under 6.5 receptions.
Proper sports betting involves placing a wager on specific events within a game. A simple player prop is a half-point that can swing the betting outcome. You can place a wager on the player who will score the first touchdown, for example, and you can get odds of 2-to-1. Other props are more complicated, such as predicting who will score more touchdowns in a game. In a round robin, you can place wagers on multiple teams at once, making the bets more flexible.
Futures bets are bets placed a few weeks or months in advance of an event. For example, you could bet on the Rams to win the Super Bowl at 11/1 odds, but the odds are now 4/1. A round robin is a series of parlay bets, so you can make a bet on the Rams in the Super Bowl, even if they don’t win the game. Another type of bet is the proposition bet, which involves betting on an individual team.
