Types of Sports Betting

Regardless of your chosen sport, there are several different types of bets you can place. There is head-to-head betting, where you predict the performance of two or more competitors in a game. Unlike traditional sports betting, head-to-head betting does not depend on the outcome of an event. For example, a player can bet on the outcome of a Super Bowl game, or on the time it takes for the national anthem to be finished. Some sportsbooks also allow bets on ties, which can occur if two or more drivers have the same time or if both are disqualified from the race.

Margin betting involves choosing a team to win by a certain number of points or to lose by a certain amount of points. For example, a bettor might bet on the Oakland Raiders to win by 11, 12 or 13 points, while betting against them would result in a push. This strategy is similar to the Martingale System, where a bettor doubles his or her bet after losing. It works both in sports and in other forms of gambling.

Sportsbooks set player totals, or player props. The easiest way to start betting is with Julian Edelman over/under 6.5 receptions. Player props have lower limits and are not as accurate as betting on other outcomes. If you’re new to sports betting, be sure to have fun when you place your first bet!
