Sports Betting Mistakes

Sportsbooks often boast about how much money they have in the bank by posting good lines during an event. Although these numbers may be impressive, they aren’t particularly useful for sportsbetters. Sportsbooks rarely receive the same amount of money on both sides of a particular contest, so they are able to lock in a profit over the long term by posting these good lines. Here are some tips for avoiding sports betting mistakes. To avoid losing your entire bankroll, be sure to keep records of all your wagers.

Over/Under bets – These are relatively simple to place and bet on. Over/under lines are the easiest to place bets on because most sportsbooks do a good job setting these odds. While picking winners is far more difficult than choosing an over/under line, you can use these odds to bet on games that will either meet or exceed the total. When betting on an over/under line, make sure to consider the vig, which is the sportsbook’s cut of the action.

Point spread wager – You can make a wager on a particular team based on the point spread or the money line. You can place a bet on the underdog team or the favorite, depending on your preference. You’ll bet on the favorite team to win the game, but if they lose by less than the spread, you’ll win your money. If the underdog wins the game outright, you’ll make a profit on that bet.
